19A: Idea Napkin #2

19A: Idea Napkin #2

You: My name is Josh Eisner, I am a Sophomore accounting major at the University of Florida. If someone were to ask me what I think I excel at, I would say that my most positive traits are my responsibility, my competitiveness, and my work ethic. My experiences directly correlate to my traits. For example I was the captain of my Varsity Basketball Team for 2 years and I also took part in many different forms of community service and fundraiser events. Being the captain of a basketball team gave me a lot of responsibility and also wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for my competitive nature and my work ethic.

What are you offering to customers: My opportunity belief idea is that the University of Florida needs to build more tunnels and bridges around campus to accommodate both drivers of cars to speed up traffic and pedestrian walkers in order to keep the streets safe for students.

Who are you offering to: My product is going to mostly affect students at the university of Florida.

Why do they care: Everyone will care about the tunnels and bridges because it directly affects students safety and also it speeds up traffic around traffic so drivers don’t get irritated.

What are your core competencies: My core competencies is that no other students around the school put out the idea of building more bridges and tunnels. If someone else spoke up before it would have already been done before. My main goal is to spread awareness all around the campus so people become aware of the situation and we could try to put a end to the problem.

I believe that all these ideas fit together because no one before me put out the idea of having problems with the streets around campus, but I have seen too many close situations in which someone could have gotten injured or traffic making people show up late to class.

17A: Elevator Pitch 2

https://jeisnerblogs.blogspot.com/2018/10/17a-elevator-pitch-2.html

What I think I excelled in this elevator pitch that I didn't do in the other one is I was a lot more confident in the way I spoke. I also think I really emphasized the opportunity that I informed you guys on.

18A: Create A Customer Avatar

18A: Create a Customer Avatar

My customer avatar is a 20 year old college student like myself. To be different from everyone else, my customer avatar is myself. Obviously I am not the only customer of my own idea, but a college student, male, or female who goes to class at the University of Florida is the customer avatar.

Age: 19-21

Hobbies: Studying, Going out, Watching TV, Hanging with friends

Car: Nissan

TV Shows: Friends, anything on Netflix

Children: No children

What do you have in common: What I have in common with the customer avatar is almost everything. My customer avatar is based off of myself but I also included some things that normal college students do because my customer avatar is based of a college student. It is not a coincidence that me and my avatar have a lot of things in common because we are the same person.

16A: Secret Sauce

16A:What Your Secret Sauce

Work Ethic: One thing in life I always strive to succeed at is work ethic. Whether it was in sports or in academics I always strived to better myself and work harder in order to succeed. In my opinion everything in life is based on work ethic. Whether or not you succeed at your job, work ethic. Finding a wife, work ethic. Playing sports, work ethic.

Humble: Another thing that differentiates me from others is how humble I am. I never brag about any of my accomplishments/achievements even though I have so many. I always keep quiet when good things happen to me. Me being humble isn’t really showcased but in my personal opinion I see it as a big positive to me.

Competitive: With that being said, I am very competitive, especially in sports I never want to lose or let someone do better than me. In the classroom  I always strive to be the best. This competitive nature in me helps me with my work ethic. Being competitive set me apart from people who aren’t and helps me succeed.

Passionate: Very similar to competitive but is more of an inner feeling than an outer feeling. Being passionate allows me to strive to be the best that i could be inside. It also causes me to focus better on what I am doing. It separates me from people who don’t care as much.

Responsibility: This is my final thing and it is different than all the other. In the other 4 it is more about succeeding in life and getting better. Being responsible though is what keeps you safe and mature. In everything you do, you always need to have in the back of your mind the dangers of doing it and what could happen if something goes wrong.

In the end After all my interviews they all agree with me in the traits that I have and that I live by.
I wouldn't change any of my 5 traits and I feel that these 5 people all hit on them perfectly. They included that I was hardworking dedicated and committed which are all traits that I live by

15A: Figuring Out Buying Behavior #2

15A: Figuring Out Buying Behavior #2

In this assignment I interviewed 3 more students at the University of Florida and went into more details about they views on pedestrians on campus and drivers on campus. Instead fo asking for their opinion on it like in Figuring out buying behavior #1. I decided to go more into the reason why they decided on being a walker or a driver and what goes into that decision.

In my interviews I asked the 3 different students which transportation they use to get around campus. Then I went more into the background information such as how much they pay for that form of transportation and if they were considering another form of transportation. One of my interviewers said that since he is from New York, there is no way for her to get her car down to florida without it being really expensive. That is why she chose to buy a scooter down here in gainesville. This student in particular didn’t really have much of a chose on which way of transportation to use. Just like another person I interviewed whose parents don’t allow him to use a car or scooter here in gainesville so all he does is walk.

My product isn’t something that is directly bought by people. My product is financed by the University of Florida and the construction company that the University of Florida uses. The way that this product affects people is not in the monetary way. It affects the environment and the way that the streets are set up. The best way people could help to buy this money is to make pamphlets or spread the word about the need of more bridges and tunnels and hope that someone hears them and talks to local officials and school officials to try and get something done with it.

After the school officials and towns people decide to build these bridges and tunnels they will look back on it and see that the University of Florida is a safer more person friendly campus. Everything in the town will be sped up more and a lot less students will be late to class or to their other destinations. If someone thinks it is a waste of more for more bridges and tunnels they should stand out by the reitz union around 5 pm today and see how backed up the traffic is, not only because of the increase in the number of cars but because of the increase in the number of pedestrians walking across the street.

To summarize my 3 interviews, with each interview i went into more in depth on how they decided which form of transportation they were going to use on campus for this semester and more on what ways we could get word out of need for change and the building of safer paths for people to walk on. We also discussed how money wouldn’t be coming out of the students pockets to get something like this built on campus, but what students could do to help is spread word as much as they can for how the University of Florida could be safer for students if these pieces of architecture were built.

In conclusion I learned that since my product isn’t something a customer directly buys, it could take awhile for  action to be taken on this matter.

14A: Halfway Reflection

14A: Halfway Reflection

  1. This course has not been very difficult up to this moment. With that being said though that doesn’t mean that I haven’t learned a lot and put in a lot of time into it. To keep up with this class you have to be on top of your schedule and have very good time management. The reason for this is because everything in the course is predetermined when it is going to be due. If you wanted to you could have completed the entire course already. That is what I love about this course. It helps me a lot with time management of not only this class but other classes. For example this weekend I won’t be able to do a lot of work because I am going to Nashville for the Gators game so I am going to complete my assignments prior to the weekend.
  2. Not specifically in this class but there have been times that I thought about giving up in two ways. The first being when I got cut from my soccer team in 9th grade. I thought I never wanted to play ever again and actually ended up switch sports because I was better at volleyball. Another example was when  pledged. I thought i wasn’t able to handle my school work, extra curricular and pledging but I learned better time management cause of it.
  3. Three tips that I would offer students taking this class next semester would be to make sure you stay on top of your work. You should be able to manage this class work with other classes. Another tip I would offer is to be responsible, Assignments come at you fast so you have to be on top of it so you don’t miss anything. Even not in this class directly, you have to develop a tenacious attitude. The reason behind this is that you need to attack life at all angles. Whether it is in your job or a class you need to pursue it like it is your last day their.

13A: Reading Reflection

13A: Reading Reflection

When deciding which entrepreneur to read about it was an easy choice for me. I have always had an interest in Elon Musk. The reason behind this is that my own belief is that the world cannot survive if we don’t have advancements in technology. Elon Musk is the master of technology which you could learn by reading his autobiography Elon Musk: Tesla, Spacex, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future.
What surprised me most about the autobiography was how much Elon Musk looked up to Steve Jobs. Even though they are both in different kinds of technology. What surprised me though is how much other people knew about Elon Musk’s work ethic. In the autobiography Ashlee Vance interviews a lot of people close to Elon and you could tell that he is a hard working and cares about not only his profession but also people closer to him.
What about the entrepreneur that I most admire is his work ethic. The reason why I admire his work ethic is because work ethic is something I really admire myself. I believe myself has a good work ethic because I am always in the library doing my work. This specific quote was the reason why I admire his work ethic “We all worked 20 hour days, and he worked 23 hours.”
What I don’t admire about Elon Musk is that his technology that he most focuses on is Transportation technology, such as the Spacex and Tesla. The reason why this doesn’t really admire to me is because I have no interest in those kinds of things. I’ve never been one to car about what car I drive.
Like most entrepreneurs and billionaire obviously on the road to stardom they are going to encounter plenty of speed bumps and face a lot of adversity. During Elon Musk's childhood he was known more as a dreamer and an oddball than as a genius, or an entrepreneur. He has been rejected on deals and have had very bad business ideas, but in the end that leads to him succeeding and finding better ideas.
One aspect of the reading that was confusing to me was when they actually interviewed Elon Musk. the reason behind the confusion is he went so in depth into his space inventions and his science that the normal human has no idea what he is talking about. Only people with advance science degrees would be able to understand what he discusses in his interview.
If I could ask Elon Musk two questions i would ask him 1. How long do you think it will take the all of earth to be wiped out, whether that is by over population or a disaster. I would want to discuss with him what future technology we could build to save us from an event like this and finally I would finish if he believes there is a slight chance of there being another planet in which people could live on.
When i said I admire Elon’s hard work that is because he works harder than everyone else. So obviously Elon Musk’s opinion of hard work is that he works the hardest in the world and that’s why he is so successful.

12A: Figuring Out Buying Behavior

To conduct my interviews I had to focus on the segment of people who fit into my ‘target market’ category. To be more specific that is students at the University of florida. To be a little more diverse I interviewed one person who usually walks to class, one who takes their scooter and one that drives a car. Though scooters work the same as cars, it is always good to get different kinds of peoples perspectives.

After interviewing the 3 people, Sarah, Matt and Jake. They all told me they met the same need because Matt being from New York was raised similar to me with the need to always do things fast. They all said that they become aware of the problem mostly in the afternoon closest to rush hour. Jake said that getting from his apartment to the fraternity house where he eats dinner at 530 is always a pain because of the amount of traffic on the roads. Sarah who always walks everywhere sees the problem mostly in between class periods when students get out of class.

As far as information research. The 3 people that I interviewed all said that there is nothing they are able to do to solve the problem in the moment. They hope that in the future though we find a way to make people walking feel more safe and allow drivers to not have to wait for people who are walking all the time. The all agree with me that the best way to solve the solution is to communicate to others about the problem that we see. Some people might not see the problem as much as we do but if they look into it more than I can become aware of it and try to fix the situation. Spreading the news is the best way to get our problem out there so we as a school could come up with a solution

To summarize what I learned in the interview. I learned more about exact times that the problem occur for example when class gets out and during rush hour around 530 in the afternoon. We also came to the agreement on the best way to try to solve the problem is to spread the word around town so other people see the problem like us.

11A: Idea Napkins

11A: Idea Napkin

You: My name is Josh Eisner I am a sophomore accounting major at the University of Florida. I am from Long Island, New York. One transition that I had to adapt to that is different in florida and new york is the speed of things. Things in new york are done at a faster speed specifically in the city and when involving traffic. I feel that being from New York I have more experience in driving in heavy traffic areas than others from different areas across the U.S. My aspirations for my business concept is to speed up traffic in college towns and make the environment safer in college towns. Speeding up traffic is one of my biggest aspirations to fix because it is something that really bothers me.

What are you offering to customers: What I am offering to customers is a solution to solve the traffic problem on gainesville campus. The main cause of traffic is the pedestrian crosswalks that completely slow down traffic and make cars wait for people to walk across the street. So my solution to this problem is to introduce more tunnels and bridges in gainesville even if they are small. The DNA bridge is a big landmark in gainesville so why not make more things like that around the campus. Another example of this is the tunnel by cypress hall, people use these tunnels daily even though they still have the option to use the street.

Who are you offering it to: I am offering this solution to all people that walk around the campus at the University of Florida. This includes all students, teachers, alumni, and just any other pedestrians. Even though the main people this affects are the walkers it also has an impact on the drivers. Even though they aren’t directly affected by the tunnels and bridges because the bridges and tunnels will be for walking. It will help speed up traffic for drivers.

Why do they care: People should care about my business concept because it is a good way to make the environment better. One thing that people in gainesville complain about it getting to their class late because it took 15 minutes to drive a half a mile. Yes gainesville is a big school that holds 50,000 students but that shouldn’t affect the fact that it takes forever to people to travel across campus either to class or their apartment.

What are your core competencies? My core competencies is to make the college experience better for everyone at the University of Florida. There really isn’t any competition between businesses because it is more of a construction project than a business project. The thing that sets people apart from other is that I am speaking up coming from New York because traffic is something that really bothers me. Also I care about the safety of both my friends and fellow classmates so why not make a change when it is something as simple as building a small bridge.

These elements are all that I need to get my point across that bridges and tunnels should be built to speed up traffic in cars and make walkers feel more safe. The reason why I believe these 5 points are enough because it discusses who is going to be affected and also says what I believe should be done construction wise to perform these actions. I could go into more detail about when exactly construction should begin and where it should begin. I also covered my core competencies which is to make the college experience better for everyone at the University of Florida.
