20A: Growing Your Social Capital

20A: Growing Your Social Capital

  1. Jacob Londos: Construction Management Major.
    1. Jacob Londos is currently a student at the University of Florida, he has a background in construction with his dad being a big time construction manager in the state of Florida. His background would be able to help me expand my knowledge on how we could make these tunnels and bridges work and how to get them built
    2. Domain Expert
    3. I found Jake as he is one of my closest friends and we have discussed other construction possibilities in the past including the reconstruction of our Fraternity House
    4. Me and Jake have discussed many times his future in the construction business as he is studying to be a construction manager like his father.
    5. Including Jake in my opportunity belief is perfect as this is what he is trying to specialize in.
  2. Tony: Bus Driver as the University of Florida
    1. Tony has been a bus driver for 14 Years at the University of Florida. He knows the streets of Gainesville better than anyone at the University of Florida in that he has been driving around them for over 14 years.
    2. Market Expert
    3. I found Tony when I took the bus one day and knew I had to get this assignment done. I spoke to him for a good amount of time waiting at the hub.
    4. What we discussed is my opportunity belief and whether or not he believed it could work in the near future. He thinks that it is too hard to make any big construction things done
    5. Including Tony in my opportunity was a good idea because I got a feel of what people who have been involved in transportation and driving around the streets of campus for many years.
3.  Londos Father
  1. Londos father is currently a big time construction manager in the state of florida. He has done construction in Brickell.
  2. Supplier to Industry
  3. I used Jakes father because he is one of my friends father and he could actually get things done in the construction business as opposed to Jake who is just learning about it. I gave him a call after Jake gave me his number to discussion my opportunity belief.
  4. I asked him for more specifics about building tunnels and bridges for example I discussed more prices and specifics and building.
  5. Including him in my networking is a great idea because he is the ideal person to actually step up and get the job done.

Target Networking is a good idea because it expands the people you know and in the future will help me connect with people on other projects or construction management. This experience was really different than my other networking because I am an accounting major so my contacts in the past have been more related to business not construction.
